What are people using for a relationship code of step child?

Greetings to Sfoster.lcc and the rest of the user group interested in this question. I am responding because nobody else has responded. I worked as a consultant for a managed care company for 17 years, and hope that I can help out. I assume that the question is about a "relationship" billing code? If this is accurate, I don't think that payers make a distinction between stepchildren and biological children for diagnoses and treatment - they are all part of the "family," as far as payers are concerned. If this is not a correct understanding of the question, please feel free to post a clarification.

Yes, I was looking for clarification on the "client's relationship to insured:" field for billing purposes. There was at one time a # identified as step child, but it has since been obsoleted because of HIPPA regulations, from my understanding. Thanks for the input. I will go ahead with using "child".

I agree. I would use 90846 or 47 just as I would with a biological child.
